We fell in love with these delicate, colorful earrings we discovered in a market in Bangkok. Made of bamboo strips dyed in multiple colors and woven in an array of patterns. They are attention seekers (trust us) with no two the same.
The owner of the stall in which I discovered them shared they used to be fairly common but given the manual effort involved the craftspeople doing them either switched to other craft forms, or are aging out. Indeed, that was the case with the stall's mother who was the one who had made these pieces, she was getting to a point where she was going to retire. In visiting other stalls, we try to determine if what we are sourcing is truly unique or something made in a factory. In this case, on our first visit when we discovered these bamboo earrings, there were just three stalls, selling a few pieces. On our last trip just our friends, selling the handiwork of his mom. We do not believe we can get any more.
